Efficient Data Encoding for School Year 2024-2025: A Crucial Step for Basic Education

Accurate and timely data collection plays an essential role in shaping the future of education. With the School Year 2024-2025 fast approaching, the Department of Education (DepEd) has taken steps to ensure that schools, both public and private, gather and encode crucial student information through the Learner Information System (LIS). This initiative supports evidence-based policies, decision-making, and various programs that promote better educational outcomes in the Philippines.

The Importance of the Learner Information System (LIS)

The LIS serves as an essential tool in capturing and recording the official number of students enrolled in schools. Launched on June 10, 2024, for private schools, State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs), and Philippine Schools Overseas (PSOs), the system ensures that accurate data is available for every learner.

Public schools, including elementary and secondary institutions, along with Alternative Learning System (ALS) Community Learning Centers (CLCs), started encoding and updating learner data on August 27, 2024.

Incorporating key programs such as the Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM), Body Mass Index (BMI), School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP), Education Service Contracting (ESC), and Senior High School Quality Voucher Recipient (SHS QVR), the LIS ensures that essential data for each learner is tagged and recorded for the School Year 2024-2025.

Intensifying Child Finding and Mapping Activities

One of the major efforts DepEd is focusing on this year is ensuring the inclusivity of education for all learners. As part of this initiative, public schools are tasked with conducting Child Finding or Mapping activities to locate school-age learners within their communities. These activities aim to guarantee that all learners, including those with disabilities, are identified and enrolled in schools. This aligns with DepEd Order 23 s. 2022, which emphasizes the Child Find Policy for Learners with Disabilities Towards Inclusive Education.

Deadline and Assistance for Schools

DepEd has set a firm deadline for the encoding and updating of student data in the LIS for October 31, 2024. This deadline applies to all schools, including ALS CLCs, and emphasizes the need for schools to comply and ensure the accuracy of their enrollment data.

For schools encountering challenges in encoding their data, Regional Planning Officers (RPOs) and Division Planning Officers (DPOs) are available to provide technical assistance. These officers play a crucial role in monitoring and supporting schools in their compliance with the LIS enrollment process.

Conclusion

The DepEd's commitment to ensuring accurate, comprehensive, and inclusive data collection for School Year 2024-2025 is a step forward in advancing the Philippine educational system. The use of the Learner Information System (LIS) will allow for better decision-making, more effective programs, and ultimately a more responsive educational landscape for all learners.
