SRI NEWS: President Marcos Pushes for Higher Service Recognition Incentive for Teachers

DECEMBER 10, 2024 - President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has directed the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the Department of Education (DepEd) to collaborate on increasing the Service Recognition Incentive (SRI) for public school teachers.

In acknowledgment of the essential role teachers play in shaping the nation’s youth, the government plans to raise the annual SRI for approximately 1,011,800 DepEd personnel from the current Php 18,000 to Php 20,000.

The SRI is an annual financial benefit provided to government employees to honor their dedication to delivering quality public service.

President Marcos tasked the DBM and DepEd to identify budgetary solutions to implement the SRI increase this December 2024, emphasizing the need to balance this initiative with fiscal prudence.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara lauded the directive, describing it as a significant morale booster for educators across the country.

“This initiative underscores our shared goal of empowering teachers and reinforcing their critical role in shaping the future of Filipino learners,” Angara said.

The DBM and DepEd are working to finalize funding mechanisms, with further details on the implementation timeline expected in the coming weeks.
