The Earthsavers Dreams National International Theatre Institute (ITI) Center Inc., in partnership with the University of Makati-Center for Culture and the Arts, is set to host the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Peace and Climate Techno-ResiliArt Summit Festival. The highly anticipated event will take place at the University of Makati on March 4–5, 2025.
A Platform for Collaboration and Advocacy
The Summit Festival serves as a vital platform for education stakeholders, policymakers, and cultural leaders to work together in promoting sustainable and inclusive climate solutions. It will actively involve leading artist-teachers and communicators who use the transformative power of the arts to serve the public.
One of the event’s primary objectives is to bridge the communication gap in climate science through performing, visual, and literary arts. By integrating creative expression into climate discussions, the Summit Festival aims to raise public awareness and inspire collective action toward sustainability.
Aligning with Global and National Climate Initiatives
The event aligns with the Congressional Resolution commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the United Nations (UN), supporting initiatives that educate and engage vulnerable communities on climate change and disaster risk reduction. This initiative follows the UN Triangulated Conference on Youth, Indigenous Peoples, and Labor Rights held in August 2024 at the Senate and contributes to national efforts leading to COP 30 in Belem, Brazil. At COP 30, the Philippines aspires to highlight culture-based climate action on the global stage.
Participation and Engagement
To ensure active participation, regional DepEd offices will select teachers and learners to attend as delegates. However, the participation of teachers and learners from both public and private schools remains purely voluntary. The event will not interfere with instructional time, adhering to DepEd Order (DO) No. 009, s. 2024, which outlines the Implementing Guidelines on the School Calendar and Activities for School Year 2024–2025. Additionally, the event complies with DO 9, s. 2005, which emphasizes increased engaged time-on-task, and DO 66, s. 2017, which governs off-campus activities.
